Welp, I know what I’m getting for take-out today: those dang enchiladas. (Or a chicken-fried steak if they’re out.) Dart Bowl’s !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I just hope it doesn’t get razed for whatever or bought by someone who does some other fancy take on the food. Nah, dude. This is classic Texas stuff and isn’t very common in Austin.

DIAF, 2020. I don’t know why anyone bothers wishing for next year to hurry up and get here because every “next year” ends up being worse.

You see, I just gotta have a tostada, carne asada, that’s right I want the whole enchilada.

My only addiction has to do with a flour tortilla. I need a quesadilla.

Before it closes too, get yourself over to Highland Lanes on Burnet/183 and have lunch at Lebowski’s. I went last year and it was fantastic. There are more people waiting in line to eat than there were bowling.

We’ve lost some truly iconic Austin restaurants recently. Many of them were getting priced out of their buildings to make way for more condominiums, and the COVID dealt the death blow.

we dont have many iconic restaurants ...but rona is killing them

its the social distancing....... cant make rent when your only allowed to serve about a quarter of your normal custom or get fined..

me thinks the most well established places might...maybe..ride it out...if the motogp is back as normal next year...but the rest is pretty much doomed...

I don’t know why everyone thinks things are going to be miraculously better and different in 2021 - 5 months from now, the COVID virus is going to look at a calendar and go “welp according to this , its January now, time for me to disappear”. Look where we were 5 months ago, extrapolate, and maybe look forward to 2023 or 2024 being better than 2020 - if governments survive instead of collapsing into lawless post apocalyptic wastelands with roving militias, and if there’s still an economy left to recover.

Pretty much. Every year ends up worse than the last lately.

Lebowski’s isn’t set to close, too, is it?

I saw Tumble22 moved into the original Magnolia spot.......which sort of irks me because their chicken is okay but they don’t have bleu cheese. Just ranch, which is garbage. Grumble. I’d have rather kept Magnolia. :(

Yeah, that’s most of the story here, too. Can’t afford to stay open, can’t afford to stay closed. There’s just not enough financial assistance for anyone to ride this out, it seems. It’s extremely frustrating when small businesses and regular people are struggling just to exist but our country finds money for huge corporations and other stupid crap all the time. The priorities here suck.

same shit different country i guess...

we found several billion euros to keep klm going (wich they are using to give the ceo his yearly bonus i guess as they sacked a couple thousand people since) but we cant find the money to pick up the local snackbars rent for a couple months....i mean shit...i guess another 10 grand or so will really fuck up the economy...

also...its already looking like ill be picking up the bill next year...tax increase..health insurance going up...

im seriously considering becoming one of those sovereign citizens....and just yelling fuck you not on my dime...as they arrest me..

The man basically raised me, so I’m just trying to honor his legacy at every turn.

I have no idea. I haven’t been there since the original lockdown. Who knows if it even survived? The one that really gets me is the loss of Threadgill’s. That’s where I had my first chicken fried chicken, and their broccoli casserole was da bomb.

Same goes for me and my first King Ranch casserole, I think. Either way, theirs was superb. I’m a casserole hater to the very core, but hot dang. That lump of cheesy goodness is like a smooth hug for your mouth.

Tha t was the first time I drove a manual in traffic without freaking out too much , too . We took a friend’s parents’ Toyota, IIRC. That was a lot easier than trying not to stall various track cars that people were like, “here you go, figure it out.”

The temptation to ragequit everything and move to the woods by the Nürburgring is super high, man. Less people, more tiny basket-case cars.

Not to hijack this but t he best King Ranch Chicken is here in Houston at a place called State Fare. As a bonus they have chips and pickle dip instead of the usual fried pickles.
